Being wronged

What he said about a hundred conditions

Someone had tried to attach terms to a sale.

Mā bālu aqwāmin yashtariṭūna shurūṭan laysat fī kitābi-Llāh. Mani-shtaraṭa sharṭan laysa fī kitābi-Llāhi fa-laysa lah, wa ini-shtaraṭa miʾata marrah

What is the matter with people who stipulate conditions that are not in the Book of Allah? Whoever stipulates a condition that is not in the Book of Allah does not have it, even if he stipulates it a hundred times.

Where this comes from

Aisha had wanted to buy Barirah and free her, and her owners wanted to keep the right of inheritance. Repeating a condition does not make it stronger, and the number is named to make the point.

The full narration

Narrated `Aisha:Barirah came to seek my help regarding her manumission (freedom). I told her, "If you like I would pay your price to your masters but your Wala' (allegiance) would be for me." Her masters said, "If you like, you can pay what remains (of the price of her manumission), (Sufyan the sub-narrator once said), or if you like you can manumit her, but her (inheritance) Al-Wala would be for us. "When Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) came, I spoke to him about it. He said, "Buy her and manumit her. No doubt Al-Wala' is for the manumitted." Then Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) stood on the pulpit (or Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) ascended the pulpit as Sufyan once said), and said, "What about some people who impose conditions which are not present in Allah's Book (Laws)? Whoever imposes conditions which are not in Allah's Book (Laws), his conditions will be invalid even if he imposed them a hundred times
