Reciting over yourself or someone else
They asked whether it was permitted. He ﷺ answered with one condition.
اعْرِضُوا عَلَىَّ رُقَاكُمْ لاَ بَأْسَ بِالرُّقَى مَا لَمْ يَكُنْ فِيهِ شِرْكٌ
There is no harm in ruqyah so long as it contains no shirk.
The test is not the practice but the wording. If what is being recited turns to anyone besides Allah, it is out.
The full narration
Auf b. Malik Ashja'i reported We practised incantation in the pre-Islamic days and we said:Allah's Messenger. what is your opinion about it? He said: Let me know your incantation and said: There is no harm in the incantation which does not smack of polytheism
