Faith feeling weak

What he said about Ibrahim asking for proof

He put himself and everyone else below him.

نَحْنُ أَحَقُّ مِنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِذْ قَالَ

Naḥnu aḥaqqu min Ibrāhīma idh qāl

“We have more right to doubt than Ibrahim when he said it.”

The verse is al-Baqarah 2:260.

Where this comes from

Ibrahim had asked to be shown how the dead are brought back, and was asked whether he did not believe, and answered: I do, but so that my heart may settle. The Prophet said that if anyone had the standing to ask that question it was less Ibrahim than the rest of us. In the same breath he said: may Allah have mercy on Lut, he was taking shelter behind a strong support.

The full narration

Narrated Abu Huraira:Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "We are more liable to be in doubt than Abraham when he said, 'My Lord! Show me how You give life to the dead." . He (i.e. Allah) said: 'Don't you believe then?' He (i.e. Abraham) said: "Yes, but (I ask) in order to be stronger in Faith." (2.260) And may Allah send His Mercy on Lot! He wished to have a powerful support. If I were to stay in prison for such a long time as Joseph did I would have accepted the offer (of freedom without insisting on having my guiltlessness declared)
