When your body is not what it was
Zakariyyā ﷺ, describing his own decline before asking for anything.
قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّى وَهَنَ ٱلْعَظْمُ مِنِّى وَٱشْتَعَلَ ٱلرَّأْسُ شَيْبًا وَلَمْ أَكُنۢ بِدُعَآئِكَ رَبِّ شَقِيًّا
…rabbi innī wahana-l-ʿaẓmu minnī wa-shtaʿala-r-ra'su shayban wa lam akun bi-duʿā'ika rabbi shaqiyyā.
“He said, "My Lord, indeed my bones have weakened, and my head has filled1 with white, and never have I been in my supplication to You, my Lord, unhappy [i.e., disappointed].”
He lists what has failed him, then reminds himself of the one thing that never has.
