The closest a person ever gets to his Lord
He named the exact position, then told them what to do with it.
أَقْرَبُ مَا يَكُونُ الْعَبْدُ مِنْ رَبِّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَهُوَ سَاجِدٌ فَأَكْثِرُوا الدُّعَاءَ
Aqrabu mā yakūnu-l-ʿabdu min rabbihi ʿazza wa jalla wa huwa sājidun, fa-akthirū-d-duʿāʾ
The closest a servant comes to his Lord is while he is prostrating, so make much supplication then.
Where this comes from
Face on the ground is the lowest a body can go. He taught that this is the nearest a soul ever comes. So the moment your forehead touches the floor is not the moment to hurry. It is the moment to ask.
The full narration
It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that:The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "The closest that a person can be to his Lord, the Mighty and Sublime, is when he is prostrating, so increase in supplication then
