What he said standing over a man he had just prayed for
He put the man in Allah's protection first, then asked.
اللَّهُمَّ فَاغْفِرْ لَهُ وَارْحَمْهُ إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُ
Allāhumma-ghfir lahu wa-rḥamhu innaka anta-l-ghafūru-r-raḥīm
“O Allah, forgive him and have mercy on him. You are the Forgiving, the Merciful.”
Said in the funeral prayer.
Where this comes from
Wāthilah heard the whole prayer. It began: O Allah, so and so son of so and so is in Your protection, so guard him from the trial of the grave. Then it ended here, with the two names that answer the request built into it.

Narrated Wathilah ibn al-Asqa': The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) led us in prayer over bier of a Muslim and I heard him say: O Allah, so and so, son of so and so, is in Thy protection, so guard him from the trial in the grave. (AbdurRahman in his version said: "In Thy protection and in Thy nearer presence, so guard him from the trial in the grave) and the punishment in Hell. Thou art faithful and worthy of praise.
