What a marriage is actually built on
Two things are named as having been placed between spouses, and neither one is attraction.
…wa jaʿala baynakum mawaddatan wa raḥmah, inna fī dhālika la-āyātin li-qawmin yatafakkarūn.
“And of His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquility in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought.”
Mawaddah is love you feel. Raḥmah is what carries the marriage when you do not.
