How he closed the prayer, and how the two sides differed
Waʾil ibn Hujr noticed that they were not the same.
السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ
As-salāmu ʿalaykum wa raḥmatu-Llāhi wa barakātuh
“Peace be upon you, and the mercy of Allah, and His blessings.”
Where this comes from
To his right he said all three. To his left he said the first two. The prayer does not stop; it is handed outward to whoever is there.
The full narration
Narrated Wa'il ibn Hujr: I offered prayer along with the Prophet (ﷺ). He would give the salutation to his right side (saying): Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah and His blessings; and to his left side (saying): Peace be upon you and mercy of Allah
