What he told a man whose pain was destroying him
ʿUthman ibn Abi al-ʿAs came to him with it.
اجْعَلْ يَدَكَ الْيُمْنَى عَلَيْهِ وَقُلْ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ أَعُوذُ بِعِزَّةِ اللَّهِ وَقُدْرَتِهِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا أَجِدُ وَأُحَاذِرُ سَبْعَ مَرَّاتٍ
Bismi-Llāh. Aʿūdhu bi-ʿizzati-Llāhi wa qudratihi min sharri mā ajidu wa uḥādhir
“In the name of Allah. I seek refuge in the might of Allah and His power from the evil of what I feel and what I fear.”
Where this comes from
Put your right hand on it and say it seven times. Two things are named: what he can already feel, and what he is afraid is coming. ʿUthman ends the report in four words. I said it, and Allah healed me.
The full narration
It was narrated that ‘Uthman bin Abul-‘As Thaqafi said:“I came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and I was suffering pain that was killing me. The Prophet (ﷺ) said to me: ‘Put your right hand on it and say: Bismillah, a’udhu bi’izzatil-lahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajidu wa uhadhiru. (In the Name of Allah, I seek refuge in the might and power of Allah from the evil of what I feel and what I fear),” seven times.’ I said that, and Allah healed me.”
