What the ground says about the person buried in it
It explains why a need takes you somewhere.
فَتَقُولُ الأَرْضُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ رَبِّ هَذَا مَا اسْتَوْدَعْتَنِي
Fa-taqūlu-l-arḍu yawma-l-qiyāmah: rabbi hādhā mā-stawdaʿtanī
On the Day of Resurrection the earth will say: my Lord, this is what You left with me.
Where this comes from
If your appointed time is in a certain land, some errand will make you go there, and when you reach the furthest point of your track you are taken. The ground is described as holding a deposit, and returning it with a sentence like a receipt.
The full narration
It was narrated from ‘Abdullah bin Mas’ud that the Prophet (ﷺ) said:“If the appointed time of death of anyone of you is in a certain land, some need will cause him to go there, then when he reaches the furthest point that it is decreed he will reach, Allah takes (his soul). And on the Day of Resurrection the earth will say: ‘My Lord, this is what You entrusted to me.’”
