What happens when it is said sincerely
One condition is attached at the end.
مَا قَالَ عَبْدٌ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ قَطُّ مُخْلِصًا إِلاَّ فُتِحَتْ لَهُ أَبْوَابُ السَّمَاءِ حَتَّى تُفْضِيَ إِلَى الْعَرْشِ مَا اجْتَنَبَ الْكَبَائِرَ
Mā qāla ʿabdun lā ilāha illā-Llāhu qaṭṭu mukhliṣan illā futiḥat lahu abwābu-s-samāʾi ḥattā tufḍiya ilā-l-ʿarsh, mā-jtanaba-l-kabāʾir
“No servant ever says there is no god but Allah sincerely without the gates of the sky being opened for it until it reaches the Throne, as long as he avoids the major sins.”
Where this comes from
Two words carry the whole thing. Sincerely, at the front. And at the back, the one qualification.
The full narration
Abu Hurairah [may Allah be pleased with him] narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:“No worshipper has ever said: None has the right to be worshipped but Allah (Lā ilāha illallāh)’ sincerely, except that the gates of heaven are opened for it, until it reaches to the Throne, so long as he avoids the major sins.”
