When you have done all you can
Said by Ibrāhīm ﷺ in the fire, and by the believers when armies gathered
وَٱلَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا هَبْ لَنَا مِنْ أَزْوَٰجِنَا وَذُرِّيَّـٰتِنَا قُرَّةَ …
When you long for a family
The prayer of the servants of the Most Merciful.
فَسَقَىٰ لَهُمَا ثُمَّ تَوَلَّىٰٓ إِلَى ٱلظِّلِّ فَقَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّى لِمَآ أَنزَلْتَ إِلَىَّ …
When you have nothing and no one
Mūsā ﷺ said this alone in Madyan, having fled with nothing, sitting in t
رَبَّنَا ٱغْفِرْ لِى وَلِوَٰلِدَىَّ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلْحِسَابُ
For your parents
Ibrāhīm ﷺ asked for his parents even after everything between them.
إِذْ أَوَى ٱلْفِتْيَةُ إِلَى ٱلْكَهْفِ فَقَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَآ ءَاتِنَا مِن لَّدُنكَ رَحْمَةً …
When you have had to walk away from everything
Said by young men who left their homes rather than give up what they bel
وَإِذَا سَأَلَكَ عِبَادِى عَنِّى فَإِنِّى قَرِيبٌ ۖ أُجِيبُ دَعْوَةَ ٱلدَّاعِ إِذَا دَعَانِ ۖ …
When He feels far away
The only verse where Allah answers a question about Himself without the
رَبِّ هَبْ لِى حُكْمًا وَأَلْحِقْنِى بِٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ
When you want to end up among the right people
Ibrāhīm ﷺ asked for sound judgement, and then for the company that goes
وَزَكَرِيَّآ إِذْ نَادَىٰ رَبَّهُۥ رَبِّ لَا تَذَرْنِى فَرْدًا وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ ٱلْوَٰرِثِينَ
When you are afraid of being left with no one
Zakariyyā ﷺ, old and without a child, asking not to be left alone.
قَالَ إِنَّمَآ أَشْكُوا۟ بَثِّى وَحُزْنِىٓ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ وَأَعْلَمُ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا …
When you cannot say it to anyone else
Yaʿqūb ﷺ, told he was grieving too openly, answered this.
فَإِن تَوَلَّوْا۟ فَقُلْ حَسْبِىَ ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ ۖ …
When you have been let down by people
What the Prophet ﷺ was told to say if they turned away.
ٱلَّذِينَ يَحْمِلُونَ ٱلْعَرْشَ وَمَنْ حَوْلَهُۥ يُسَبِّحُونَ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّهِمْ وَيُؤْمِنُونَ …
Someone is already asking on your behalf
The Qur'an records what those who carry the Throne say about the believe
قَالَ لَا تَخَافَآ ۖ إِنَّنِى مَعَكُمَآ أَسْمَعُ وَأَرَىٰ
When you feel watched by no one
Said to Mūsā and Hārūn as they walked towards the most powerful man aliv
وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ وَنَعْلَمُ مَا تُوَسْوِسُ بِهِۦ نَفْسُهُۥ ۖ وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ …
How near He actually is
A measurement given in the Qur'an, in terms of your own body.
هُوَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ فِى سِتَّةِ أَيَّامٍ ثُمَّ ٱسْتَوَىٰ عَلَى …

A question asked of you, not by you
Four words in Arabic, phrased as a question.
إِنَّآ أَعْطَيْنَـٰكَ ٱلْكَوْثَرَ فَصَلِّ لِرَبِّكَ وَٱنْحَرْ إِنَّ شَانِئَكَ هُوَ ٱلْأَبْتَرُ
When you have been told you amount to nothing
Revealed after his son died and an enemy said his line was finished.
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِن تَنصُرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ يَنصُرْكُمْ وَيُثَبِّتْ …
A conditional you can act on today
Support is offered in exchange for support.
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ سَيَجْعَلُ لَهُمُ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ وُدًّا
When you feel disliked
A promise about how other people will come to feel about you.
أَمَّن يُجِيبُ ٱلْمُضْطَرَّ إِذَا دَعَاهُ وَيَكْشِفُ ٱلسُّوٓءَ وَيَجْعَلُكُمْ خُلَفَآءَ …
Who answers when you are at the end of it
A question the Qur'an asks rather than answers, because the answer is ob
وَٱصْبِرْ لِحُكْمِ رَبِّكَ فَإِنَّكَ بِأَعْيُنِنَا ۖ وَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ حِينَ تَقُومُ
When you are waiting on a decision that is not yours

What happens where people gather to remember Him
Angels are described as roaming the roads looking for exactly this.

Sitting with someone frightened of dying
Saʿd wept when he ﷺ visited him during his illness in Makkah.
رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي مَا أَسْرَرْتُ وَمَا أَعْلَنْتُ
Forgiveness for the parts nobody saw
Aisha went looking for him at night and found him in prostration, saying
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَشْهَدُ أَنِّي عَلَى دِينِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ
A man searching before there was anything to find
He travelled looking for the religion of Ibrāhīm and died before the rev
اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ أَتْبَاعَهُمْ مِنْهُمْ
Asking for people who only follow
The Anṣār said every nation has followers, and asked to be counted with
ٱدْعُوا۟ رَبَّكُمْ تَضَرُّعًا وَخُفْيَةً ۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلْمُعْتَدِينَ
How to ask
An instruction about volume and manner.
إِنَّكَ كَالَّذِي قَالَ الأَوَّلُ اللَّهُمَّ أَبْغِنِي حَبِيبًا هُوَ أَحَبُّ إِلَىَّ مِنْ …
Asking to be given someone to love
A supplication made for companionship itself.
فَٱصْبِرْ إِنَّ وَعْدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقٌّ ۖ وَلَا يَسْتَخِفَّنَّكَ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُوقِنُونَ
Three instructions for holding on

The limit on not speaking to someone
And who carries the sin once it goes past that.
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ هَذَا عَنِّي وَعَمَّنْ لَمْ يُضَحِّ مِنْ أُمَّتِي
Who he included in his own sacrifice
He said it with the knife in his hand.
اللَّهُمَّ أَخْبِرْ عَنَّا نَبِيَّكَ

What he answered when a woman had nothing to wear

Two things promised for one act
Both of them are things people cannot arrange for themselves.
