What al-Fatihah is called
Three names in one line.
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ أُمُّ الْقُرْآنِ وَأُمُّ الْكِتَابِ وَالسَّبْعُ الْمَثَانِي
Al-ḥamdu lillāhi ummu-l-qurʾāni wa ummu-l-kitābi wa-s-sabʿu-l-mathānī
Al-hamdu lillah is the mother of the Qurʾān, the mother of the Book, and the seven oft repeated.
Where this comes from
Umm in Arabic is the origin something returns to, the source a thing is traced back to. Seven verses, said at least seventeen times a day, and named as the place the rest comes from.
