What he said when he repaid a loan
He had borrowed forty thousand.
بَارَكَ اللَّهُ لَكَ فِي أَهْلِكَ وَمَالِكَ إِنَّمَا جَزَاءُ السَّلَفِ الْحَمْدُ وَالأَدَاءُ
Bāraka-Llāhu laka fī ahlika wa mālik. Innamā jazāʾu-s-salafi-l-ḥamdu wa-l-adāʾ
May Allah bless you in your family and your wealth. The repayment of a loan is thanks and settlement.
Where this comes from
The lender reported it himself. Money came in, the Prophet handed the whole amount back, and then added the sentence, which sets out what a lender is actually owed. The sum, and being thanked for it.
The full narration
it was narrated from Isla'il bin Ibrahim bin 'Abdullah bin Abi Rabi'ah, from his father, that his grandfather said:"The Prophet borrowed forty thousand from me, then some wealth came to him, and he paid me back and said: 'May Allah bless your family and your wealth for you: the reward for lending is praise and repayment
