What he said to Abu Dharr over an insult
Abu Dharr had brought up a man's mother.
يَا أَبَا ذَرٍّ أَعَيَّرْتَهُ بِأُمِّهِ إِنَّكَ امْرُؤٌ فِيكَ جَاهِلِيَّةٌ، إِخْوَانُكُمْ خَوَلُكُمْ، جَعَلَهُمُ اللَّهُ تَحْتَ أَيْدِيكُمْ
Yā Abā Dharr, a-ʿayyartahu bi-ummih. Innaka-mruʾun fīka jāhiliyyah. Ikhwānukum khawalukum, jaʿalahumu-Llāhu taḥta aydīkum
Abu Dharr, did you insult him about his mother? You are a man with ignorance still in you. Those who serve you are your brothers. Allah has placed them under your hand.
Where this comes from
It continues: so whoever has his brother under his hand should feed him from what he eats and clothe him from what he wears, and not burden him with what will overcome him, and if he does, then help him.
The full narration
Narrated Al-Ma'rur: At Ar-Rabadha I met Abu Dhar who was wearing a cloak, and his slave, too, was wearing a similar one. I asked about the reason for it. He replied, "I abused a person by calling his mother with bad names." The Prophet said to me, 'O Abu Dhar! Did you abuse him by calling his mother with bad names You still have some characteristics of ignorance. Your slaves are your brothers and Allah has put them under your command. So whoever has a brother under his command should feed him of what he eats and dress him of what he wears. Do not ask them (slaves) to do things beyond their capacity (power) and if you do so, then help them
