What he said when he set out
Three short clauses, no request in any of them.
اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ عَضُدِي وَأَنْتَ نَصِيرِي وَبِكَ أُقَاتِلُ
Allāhumma anta ʿaḍudī wa anta naṣīrī wa bika uqātil
“O Allah, You are my strength and You are my helper, and by You I fight.”
Where this comes from
ʿAḍud is the upper arm, the part that carries the weight. Anas said this is what he said when he went out on an expedition. It asks for nothing. It only names who the strength belongs to before the first blow lands.
The full narration
Anas narrated that when the Prophet (ﷺ) would go out for an expedition, he would say:“O Allah, You are my `Aḍud and You are my Helper, and by You do I fight (Allāhumma anta `aḍudī, wa anta naṣīrī, wa bika uqātil).”
