What a woman did with the only thing she was given

Aisha had nothing in the house but one date.

مَنْ يَلِي مِنْ هَذِهِ الْبَنَاتِ شَيْئًا فَأَحْسَنَ إِلَيْهِنَّ كُنَّ لَهُ سِتْرًا مِنَ النَّارِ

Man yalī min hādhihi-l-banāti shayʾan fa-aḥsana ilayhinna kunna lahu sitran mina-n-nār

“Whoever is put in charge of any of these daughters and treats them well, they will be a screen for him from the Fire.”

Where this comes from

A woman came asking, with two daughters. Aisha found nothing but one date and gave it to her. She split it between the two girls, took nothing herself, and left. Aisha told him when he came in, and this is what he said.

The full narration

Narrated `Aisha:(the wife of the Prophet) A lady along with her two daughters came to me asking me (for some alms), but she found nothing with me except one date which I gave to her and she divided it between her two daughters, and then she got up and went away. Then the Prophet (ﷺ) came in and I informed him about this story. He said, "Whoever is in charge of (put to test by) these daughters and treats them generously, then they will act as a shield for him from the (Hell) Fire
