What he told Aisha while they were looking at the moon
He was quoting a verse she would have known.
اسْتَعِيذِي بِاللَّهِ مِنْ شَرِّ هَذَا فَإِنَّ هَذَا الْغَاسِقُ إِذَا وَقَبَ
Istaʿīdhī bi-Llāhi min sharri hādhā, fa-inna hādha-l-ghāsiqu idhā waqab
“Seek refuge with Allah from the evil of this, for this is the darkness as it settles.”
The verse is al-Falaq 113:3.
Where this comes from
They were looking at the moon. He pointed at it and identified it as the ghāsiq of Surah al-Falaq, the darkness when it gathers in. It is one of the few places where he named what a verse was pointing to.
The full narration
Aishah narrated:“The Prophet looked at the moon and he said: ‘O Aishah! Do you seek refuge with Allah from the evil of this? For indeed this is Al-Ghasiqu Idha Waqab (The darkened one as it darkens).’”
