What he prayed while holding a boy against him

Ibn Abbas was still a child when it was said over him.

اللَّهُمَّ عَلِّمْهُ الْحِكْمَةَ وَتَأْوِيلَ الْكِتَابِ

Allāhumma ʿallimhu-l-ḥikmata wa taʾwīla-l-kitāb

“O Allah, teach him wisdom and the interpretation of the Book.”

Where this comes from

Ibn Abbas narrates it himself: he pulled me against him and said this. He went on to become the one the next generations went to for exactly that, and he is quoted on the meaning of the Qurʾān more than almost anyone.

The full narration

It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas said:"The Messenger of Allah embraced me and said: 'O Allah, teach him wisdom and the (correct) interpretation of the Book
