When you are studying or sitting an exam

The only thing Allah commands His Messenger ﷺ to ask for more of.

When you have to speak and you are afraid

Mūsā ﷺ asked for this before standing in front of Pharaoh.

قُل لَّن يُصِيبَنَآ إِلَّا مَا كَتَبَ ٱللَّهُ لَنَا هُوَ مَوْلَىٰنَا ۚ وَعَلَى ٱللَّهِ …

When you are frightened of what might happen

Good is a test as much as bad

The beauty of the world is described as deliberate, and as a test.

Mūsā asking where to look

He was told the man he sought was at a junction.

قُولُوا اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّا نَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِ جَهَنَّمَ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِ …

Taught to children the way a sūrah is taught

Ibn ʿAbbās said he taught it to them exactly as he taught the Qur'an.

ṢaḥīḥṢaḥīḥ Muslim 1333

سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ تَبَارَكَ اسْمُكَ وَتَعَالَى جَدُّكَ وَلاَ إِلَهَ غَيْرُكَ

Where refuge is sought four times over

ʿUmar recited it loudly enough that people learned it from him.

قُلِ اللَّهُمَّ ارْحَمْنِي وَارْزُقْنِي وَعَافِنِي وَاهْدِنِي

The man who could not memorise anything

He was given five phrases, then asked the honest follow-up.

اللَّهُمَّ عَلِّمْهُ الْحِكْمَةَ وَتَأْوِيلَ الْكِتَابِ

What he prayed while holding a boy against him

Ibn Abbas was still a child when it was said over him.

فَقَالَ فِيمَ يَخْتَصِمُ الْمَلأُ الأَعْلَى

A morning he was late for the dawn prayer

They almost saw the sun before he came out.

Four things that all fail in the same way

Each one is a thing that should work and does not.
