Five things between two prostrations
Said in the night prayer, in the gap where most people say nothing.
رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَارْحَمْنِي وَاجْبُرْنِي وَارْزُقْنِي وَارْفَعْنِي
Rabbi-ghfir lī wa-rḥamnī wa-jburnī wa-rzuqnī wa-rfaʿnī
“My Lord, forgive me, have mercy on me, mend what is broken in me, provide for me, and raise me.”
Where this comes from
Jabr is the word used for setting a broken bone. It is not asking for improvement. It is asking to be put back together. Five verbs, in order: forgive the past, be merciful now, repair the damage, supply what is missing, then lift.
The full narration
It was narrated that Ibn ‘Abbas said:“When praying at night (Qiyamul-Lail), the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to say between the two prostrations: ‘Rabbighfir li warhamni wajburni warzuqni warfa’ni (O Lord, forgive me, have mercy on me, improve my situation, grant me provision and raise me in status).’”
