Five requests, each one asking to be included in a group
Al-Hasan was a boy when he was taught it.
اللَّهُمَّ اهْدِنِي فِيمَنْ هَدَيْتَ وَعَافِنِي فِيمَنْ عَافَيْتَ وَتَوَلَّنِي فِيمَنْ تَوَلَّيْتَ وَبَارِكْ لِي فِيمَا أَعْطَيْتَ وَقِنِي شَرَّ مَا قَضَيْتَ إِنَّكَ تَقْضِي وَلاَ يُقْضَى عَلَيْكَ
Allāhumma-hdinī fīman hadayt, wa ʿāfinī fīman ʿāfayt, wa tawallanī fīman tawallayt, wa bārik lī fīmā aʿṭayt, wa qinī sharra mā qaḍayt. Innaka taqḍī wa lā yuqḍā ʿalayk
“O Allah, guide me among those You have guided, keep me well among those You have kept well, take charge of me among those You have taken charge of, bless me in what You have given, and protect me from the evil of what You have decreed. You decide and none decides against You.”
Where this comes from
Al-Hasan ibn Ali says the Prophet taught him these words to say in the witr. Four of the five ask to be counted in with people who have already been given the thing. It ends: none is humiliated whom You take as a friend, and none is honoured whom You oppose.
The full narration
Narrated Al-Hasan ibn Ali: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) taught me some words that I say during the witr. (The version of Ibn Jawwas has: I say them in the supplication of the witr.) They were: "O Allah, guide me among those Thou hast guided, grant me security among those Thou hast granted security, take me into Thy charge among those Thou hast taken into Thy charge, bless me in what Thou hast given, guard me from the evil of what Thou hast decreed, for Thou dost decree, and nothing is decreed for Thee. He whom Thou befriendest is not humbled. Blessed and Exalted art Thou, our Lord
