Losing someone

A prayer with two halves that seem to contradict

ʿUmar asked for two things that do not usually happen together.

اللَّهُمَّ ارْزُقْنِي شَهَادَةً فِي سَبِيلِكَ، وَاجْعَلْ مَوْتِي فِي بَلَدِ رَسُولِكَ

Allāhumma-rzuqnī shahādatan fī sabīlik, wa-jʿal mawtī fī baladi rasūlik.

“O Allah, grant me martyrdom in Your cause, and make my death be in the city of Your Messenger.”

He was killed in the mosque of Madinah. Both halves were given.

Narrated Zaid bin Aslam from his father:`Umar said, O Allah! Grant me martyrdom in Your cause, and let my death be in the city of Your Apostle
