When you want to be kept safe
The greatest verse in the Qur'an. Whoever says it at night has a protect
رَّبِّ ٱغْفِرْ لِى وَلِوَٰلِدَىَّ وَلِمَن دَخَلَ بَيْتِىَ مُؤْمِنًا وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ …
For everyone under your roof
Nūḥ ﷺ asked not only for himself, but for whoever entered his house beli
اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِي صَاعِنَا وَمُدِّنَا
Blessing in what your household measures out
The Prophet ﷺ asked for blessing in the very units they weighed food wit
السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ
Coming in through your own front door
The greeting given to a household on entering it.
وَإِذْ قَالَ إِبْرَٰهِـۧمُ رَبِّ ٱجْعَلْ هَـٰذَا بَلَدًا ءَامِنًا وَٱرْزُقْ أَهْلَهُۥ مِنَ …
For the place you live to be safe
The first thing Ibrāhīm ﷺ asked for a city was security, before provisio
اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِي شَأْمِنَا، اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِي يَمَنِنَا
For the place and its people
The Prophet ﷺ named the regions and asked for blessing on each.
إِذَا سَمِعْتُمْ صِيَاحَ الدِّيَكَةِ فَاسْأَلُوا اللَّهَ مِنْ فَضْلِهِ، فَإِنَّهَا رَأَتْ …
Sounds in the night
The Prophet ﷺ told them what to do when they heard a cockerel, and what
وَقُل رَّبِّ أَنزِلْنِى مُنزَلًا مُّبَارَكًا وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ ٱلْمُنزِلِينَ
Arriving somewhere new
Nūḥ ﷺ was told to say it as the ark came to rest.
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ قُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَكُمْ وَأَهْلِيكُمْ نَارًا وَقُودُهَا ٱلنَّاسُ …
A command about the people in your house
Yourself first, then them.
اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لأَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ فِي مُدِّهِمْ
Asking for a place to be doubly blessed
He ﷺ asked for twice what Ibrāhīm had asked for Makkah.
اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ بِالْمَدِينَةِ ضِعْفَىْ مَا بِمَكَّةَ مِنَ الْبَرَكَةِ
Asking for more than had been asked before
Ibrāhīm had asked for Makkah. He asked for twice that.
خَيْرُكُمْ خَيْرُكُمْ لأَهْلِهِ وَأَنَا خَيْرُكُمْ لأَهْلِي وَإِذَا مَاتَ صَاحِبُكُمْ فَدَعُوهُ
A measure given for who is best
It is not about worship.
طُهُورُ إِنَاءِ أَحَدِكُمْ إِذَا وَلَغَ الْكَلْبُ فِيهِ أَنْ يَغْسِلَهُ سَبْعَ مَرَّاتٍ
A ruling about a bowl
Ordinary, practical, and preserved with the same care as everything else
جَاءَ مَلَكُ الْمَوْتِ إِلَى مُوسَى عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَجِبْ رَبَّكَ - قَالَ - …
Asking to be brought a little closer first
Mūsā ﷺ made one request when the Angel of Death returned.
اللَّهُمَّ ارْزُقْنِي شَهَادَةً فِي سَبِيلِكَ، وَاجْعَلْ مَوْتِي فِي بَلَدِ رَسُولِكَ
A prayer with two halves that seem to contradict
ʿUmar asked for two things that do not usually happen together.
اللَّهُمَّ هَؤُلاَءِ أَهْلُ بَيْتِي فَأَذْهِبْ عَنْهُمُ الرِّجْسَ وَطَهِّرْهُمْ تَطْهِيرًا
What he said after gathering them under a cloak
Umar ibn Abi Salamah was in the house and saw it.
فَإِذَا رَأَيْتَهَا فَقُلْ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ أَجِيبِي رَسُولَ اللَّهِ
Abu Ayyub and the thing taking his dates

اللَّهُمَّ أَمْضِ لأَصْحَابِي هِجْرَتَهُمْ، وَلاَ تَرُدَّهُمْ عَلَى أَعْقَابِهِمْ
What Saʿd was afraid of while he was dying
He was ill in Makkah, the city he had left.
بَارِكْ لَنَا فِي ثِمَارِنَا وَبَارِكْ لَنَا فِي مَدِينَتِنَا وَبَارِكْ لَنَا فِي صَاعِنَا …
What he asked for the city he had arrived in
He put a claim next to Ibrahim's.

What he was saying when he woke in the night
Umm Salamah heard it as he came out of sleep.

Three things he asked to be spared on a journey
Only one of them happens while you are away.
ارْجِعُوا إِلَى أَهْلِيكُمْ فَعَلِّمُوهُمْ وَمُرُوهُمْ، وَصَلُّوا كَمَا رَأَيْتُمُونِي أُصَلِّي
What he told the young men after twenty nights
He worked out that they were homesick before they said so.
كُلُّكُمْ رَاعٍ وَكُلُّكُمْ مَسْئُولٌ، فَالإِمَامُ رَاعٍ وَهْوَ مَسْئُولٌ وَالرَّجُلُ رَاعٍ …
Nobody in the list is exempt

أَحْنَاهُ عَلَى وَلَدٍ فِي صِغَرِهِ وَأَرْعَاهُ عَلَى زَوْجٍ فِي ذَاتِ يَدِهِ
