Where patience has to happen for it to count
It names the moment, not the state.
ابْنَ آدَمَ إِنْ صَبَرْتَ وَاحْتَسَبْتَ عِنْدَ الصَّدْمَةِ الأُولَى لَمْ أَرْضَ لَكَ ثَوَابًا دُونَ الْجَنَّةِ
Ibna Ādam, in ṣabarta wa-ḥtasabta ʿinda-ṣ-ṣadmati-l-ūlā, lam arḍa laka thawāban dūna-l-jannah
“Son of Adam, if you are patient and seek the reward at the first blow, I will not be satisfied with any reward for you short of the Garden.”
Where this comes from
Everyone settles eventually. What is named here is the first minute, when the news lands and nothing has been absorbed yet. That is the only window the promise attaches to.
The full narration
It was narrated from Abu Umamah that the Prophet (ﷺ) said:“Allah says: ‘O son of Adam! If you are patient and seek reward at the moment of first shock, I will not approve of any reward for you less than Paradise.’”
