Said while digging a trench with them
They were singing a line as they dug, and he answered it with his own.
اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّ الْعَيْشَ عَيْشُ الآخِرَةِ
Allāhumma inna-l-ʿaysha ʿayshu-l-ākhirah.
“O Allah, the real life is the life of the Hereafter.”
He was hungry, cold and doing manual labour with everyone else when he said it.
The full narration
According to another version of the tradition, reported on the authority of Anas b. Malik, the Messenger of Allah (may peace he upon him) is reported to have said:O God, there is no life but the life of the Hereafter, So grant honour to the Ansar and the Muhajirs
