What happens if you say it half asleep
It covers the person who wakes and does not get up.
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, wa subḥāna-Llāh, wa lā ilāha illā-Llāh, wa-Llāhu akbar, wa lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā bi-Llāh. Thumma qāla: Allāhumma-ghfir lī. Aw daʿā, ustujīb
“Praise be to Allah, glory to Allah, there is no god but Allah, Allah is greatest, and there is no power or strength except with Allah. Then he says: O Allah, forgive me. Or he supplicates, and he is answered.”
Where this comes from
It begins with whoever stirs in the night, and it starts with the declaration that there is no god but Allah alone. Then this. Then: if he asks for anything, he is answered. And it adds that if he goes further and performs the washing and prays, his prayer is accepted.
The full narration
Narrated 'Ubada bin As-Samit:The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Whoever gets up at night and says: -- 'La ilaha il-lallah Wahdahu la Sharika lahu Lahu-lmulk, waLahu-l-hamd wahuwa 'ala kullishai'in Qadir. Al hamdu lil-lahi wa subhanal-lahi wa la-ilaha il-lal-lah wa-l-lahu akbar wa la hawla Wala Quwata il-la-bil-lah.' (None has the right to be worshipped but Allah. He is the Only One and has no partners . For Him is the Kingdom and all the praises are due for Him. He is Omnipotent. All the praises are for Allah. All the glories are for Allah. And none has the right to be worshipped but Allah, And Allah is Great And there is neither Might nor Power Except with Allah). And then says: -- Allahumma, Ighfir li (O Allah! Forgive me). Or invokes (Allah), he will be responded to and if he performs ablution (and prays), his prayer will be accepted
