When it rains
Two words the Prophet ﷺ said as the rain came down.
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَهَا وَخَيْرَ مَا فِيهَا وَخَيْرَ مَا أُرْسِلَتْ بِهِ …
When the wind picks up
The Prophet ﷺ did not curse the wind. He asked for the good in it.
اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا
When the land is dry and you need rain
Said three times over, plainly, when the people came asking.
اللَّهُمَّ حَوَالَيْنَا، وَلاَ عَلَيْنَا
When there is too much rain
They had asked for rain and it did not stop. So he ﷺ asked again, differ

When something in the sky frightens people
His son had just died and the sun eclipsed. People connected the two.

A man stood up mid-sermon and asked
The livestock were dying. He interrupted the Friday sermon to say so.
اللَّهُمَّ عَلَى الآكَامِ وَالظِّرَابِ وَالأَوْدِيَةِ وَمَنَابِتِ الشَّجَرِ
Asking rain to fall where it will not do harm
A week after they begged for it, they came back asking it to move.
اللَّهُمَّ عَلَى رُءُوسِ الْجِبَالِ وَالآكَامِ وَبُطُونِ الأَوْدِيَةِ وَمَنَابِتِ الشَّجَرِ
Redirecting rain rather than stopping it
The same man came back a week later, this time about flooding.
اللَّهُمَّ عَلَى ظُهُورِ الْجِبَالِ وَالآكَامِ وَبُطُونِ الأَوْدِيَةِ وَمَنَابِتِ الشَّجَرِ
Asking for it to move, not to stop
The wording is careful. Nothing is asked to end.
